Private – Christian Rome: St. Paul’s Basilica, Catacombs and Old Appian Way
Rome is the world center of Catholicism, and here are some of the most precious religious sites in the world. Regardless of your religious beliefs, this private tour will take you on a fascinating journey back in time to the dawn of the history of Christianity.
Accompanied by your expert guide, you will discover early Christian Rome by peeling back layers and millennia of history as you descend into the underground burial chambers known as the “Catacombs” to a time when Christianity was considered a cult, whose members were executed as heretics and buried as martyrs.
The Ancient Appian Way was also very popular with pilgrims who came to Rome to visit and pray in the Christian sanctuaries built outside the city walls and near the catacombs.
The “Regina Viarum” (The Queen of Ancient Roman Roads) was immersed in a luxuriant countryside and even today you will have the feeling of being in the open countryside as you walk on the real stones of the oldest Roman road still in existence.
Following in the footsteps of Christianity, you will then visit the Papal Basilica of San Paolo Fuori, the largest after St. Peter's. Once inside, you will feel the immensity of the structure and the special sensation of being in the presence of the burial place of the great Apostle of the Gentiles: St. Paul.
