Crafting Clay and Savors: The Art of Pottery Making and Olive Oil Tasting

Experiencing a lathe workshop can be incredibly fascinating and hands-on.

You'll start with the fundamentals, understanding how the lathe works, how to safely operate it, and how to use different cutting tools to shape materials are essential. Once you're familiar with the basics, you'll likely get the chance for hands-on practice. This involves setting up the material on the lathe, securing it properly, selecting the appropriate cutting tools, and then using them to shape the material as desired. A significant part of the experience involves honing your skills to achieve precise and accurate cuts. This might involve measuring, marking, and ensuring that the final product meets specific dimensional requirements.

Your sensory journey will proceed with tasting the flavors, aromas, and nuances of different olive oils. These might range from extra virgin to flavored oils, sourced from different regions or using distinct olive varieties. Professionals might discuss the criteria for evaluating olive oil quality, including factors like acidity, freshness, color, and the absence of defects. You'll learn how factors such as soil, climate, olive varieties, and harvesting methods contribute to the unique flavors and qualities of each oil with complementary foods, and this can showcase how different oils enhance the flavors of specific dishes or ingredients.

The tour will end with the visit of Spello, a charming medieval town located in the Umbria region of central Italy. It's renowned for its well-preserved ancient walls, picturesque streets adorned with flowers, and its rich historical and artistic heritage. The heart of Spello is the church of Santa Maria Maggiore (also known as the Collegiate Church) and its historic center, where narrow cobblestone streets wind around ancient buildings. The town's medieval layout remains intact, offering a delightful ambiance for exploration. Spello is particularly famous for the "Infiorate," an annual event held on the Corpus Domini feast day in June. During this festival, intricate and vibrant floral carpets are created along the streets, showcasing stunning designs made entirely of flower petals.
